Dr Baqir Shah and Aarifa Karim Randhwa

Asghar Mayo

Some days are shocking and some people are unfortunate. Today, I am feeling myself unfortunate, not for any personal reason rather for unfortunate happenings in my surroundings. In fact, I picked my Newspaper to have a glance over headlines but I stopped after two stories on a same page. It was enough to make me gloom. First, story was captioned “Tattling Police Surgeon Silenced” and second read as “Lights dim on a beautiful mind”. These two noblest souls, ever breathed on this land, suffered a terrible ordeal last day; one is killed in day light for telling bitter truths and second suffered at the cruel hands of nature. For me these two persons were miracles, one was exceptionally brave and second was exceptionally intelligent. They were indeed flames of hopes in the dark times.
Dr Baqir Shah came to limelight in context of May 17 Kharotabad Incident as he conducted the post mortem of five foreigners who were killed by security forces. He rejected the assertions of Forces that the foreigners had attacked the police with hand grenades. He wrote what was the truth to the inconvenience of many in power. “Foreigner were not only unarmed but also one woman was pregnant with four months.” Dr Shah conduct autopsy in professional manner despite many pressures. Every truth has price in this society and Dr shah was likely to pay. He was assaulted in a restaurant by uniformed men but nothing from Government came out to punish the assailants. This time he was not fortunate enough to save his life and succumbed to injuries inflicted by unknown assailants. Balochistan is known for unknown killers. Every day bullet ridden bodies are found and go down without satisfactory probe. But this murder should not be treated as ordinary one. His elimination is aimed to win the cause of fear and violence in Balochistan and sanity at the part of Government claims that this cause should not win at any cost.
Moreover this unfortunate incident exposes the vulnerabilities of our society. Acquittal rate is relatively higher and Criminals escape their ultimate fate with much ease due to lack of evidence. People have their reasons for their reluctance to appear as witness. One reason is that Eye witnesses are not safe here and nobody risk his life like Dr Shah for speaking truth.
Second news story is related Aarfia Karim Randhawa who is youngest Microsoft certified Professional. She is proud of this nation and brought good name to Pakistan by securing awards and honor in such a tender age. She is in critical condition and her brain has damaged due to epileptic and cardiac attacks. May Allah save her life by some miracle. Loss of such people should never be individual. Indeed, They are our real assets
